Large Oval Vase

Large Oval Vase
$240.00
This vase was thrown on the wheel and altered into an oval shape while the clay was still wet, then fired in a wood kiln to about cone 12, or ~2400°F.
It was fired on its side, on top of seashells, which is visible in the shell marks left behind on the surface of the pot.
The amber colored jewel on the surface was formed from wood ash collecting on the upward-facing side of the vase during the firing. Once the kiln was hot enough to melt the ash, it ran along the side of the vase, collecting at the lowest center of gravity, between the shells the vase was resting on.
It’s lined with a shino glaze on the inside and has a flashing slip applied to the exterior
